Working Mom Finds Flexibility and Quality in Boston University’s Online MBA Program

April 7, 2021 | edX team

Matoula, a senior chemical engineer and mother of two, was looking to become a high-level executive and ethical leader. She knew that an MBA would give her the best chance of succeeding at her career goals, but she had to find a program that would give her the flexibility to maintain a work-life balance without compromising the quality of education.

Then Matoula found and successfully applied to Boston University’s Questrom School of Business Online MBA program (OMBA), a fully online MBA program that can be completed in as fast as two years. Now, Matoula is part of OMBA’s first cohort, and she couldn’t be more thrilled.

Which Master’s degree program did you take and what were your goals in taking it?

I am currently in the first cohort of the Boston University Questrom School of Business Online MBA (OMBA), and I feel honored and excited. I have the opportunity to study and gain fresh knowledge and insight into the industry. I am a senior chemical engineer with a full-time job in the oil and gas industry and a mother of two sons. Therefore, my goal is to advance my career, evolve as an ethical leader, and create value for my company while still working and maintaining a work-life balance!

Did the program meet your expectations when it came to the quality of education, time required, flexibility, etc.?

The OMBA program met my expectations in terms of quality of education and flexibility. It is a challenging program, which requires commitment, time management, and professionalism.

The faculty provide state-of-the-art knowledge, which you can apply directly to your everyday professional life. The professors, the learning facilitators, and the success specialists are always very supportive and carefully listen to our feedback.

How do you plan to leverage your degree towards your career goals? What’s next for you?

My goal is to advance my career as a high-level executive, become an ethical leader, and be a better professional and person who will constantly create value for my company and society.

What advice would you give new online Master’s degree students?

"Stay hungry, stay foolish." This quote by Steve Jobs is my advice to the new online Master's degree students. Never stop learning, never stop trying, never stop evolving. You have to keep moving forward!
