I completed my bachelor’s this year and am currently applying for Master’s programs in the USA. I also have a technical degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Because I have one year before I enroll in my Master’s, while searching for job, it occurred to me to search for free online learning courses to develop future skills in my field. When I entered ‘online learning courses’ in Google, I found edX. The whole concept amazed me: “Education for everyone.” Now, I am planning to continuously take courses of my interest from world’s most prestigious universities.
I’ve since taken DelftX Introduction to Aeronautical Engineering, UC BerkeleyX The Science of Happiness, and ANUx Violent Universe. I have long had a profound interest in aerospace and theories of the universe, so the first and third choices were natural choices. By enrolling in Science of Happiness, I was trying to learn something new, and feel lucky to have taken the course.
Introduction to Aeronautical Engineering course had great demonstrations. I specially liked the wind tunnel demonstration.
I have two goals in taking edX courses. First, I want to add some gems to my career before completing Master’s. Secondly, I want to learn some meaningful, and to study topics I have never tried. There are many courses on edX from world’s most prestigious universities, which gives me an opportunity to learn something useful from experts in my field. I’m looking forward to a good course on MATLAB, and Computational Fluid Dynamics. These courses will give me opportunity to explore my areas of interest, and also help me build my strong career.
