EdX has changed learning completely by opening up these courses for people to study online. I am still so surprised I was able to take a course exactly in my field, free and from wherever I am in the world.
I’m originally from the United Kingdom. But now I’m living in Guatemala, where I run a foundation called Fly the Phoenix that supports 12 sustainable education and community projects in Latin America. We help provide education and nutrition to over 1000 children and their families. I signed up for 14.73x: The Challenges of Global Poverty from MITX after hearing about it from my brother, who also signed up for the course.
I choose this course on edX because I am passionate about fighting poverty. I’ve not studied for a few years, and I also wanted to see how I could fit studying into my life for a Spanish course and eventually my Masters degree. 14.73x helped me sort out how Fly the Phoenix could support communities in the future. I’ve recently been discussing Micro Finance with the founder of projects as something we might be able to implement further into our model.
EdX’s new way of learning has been fantastic for me. It is great that thousands of people can study from anywhere in the world. It’s truly a wonderful idea.
