My brother, who is a teacher, told me about edX.
He recommended several other online education sites, but the edx.org courses appeal to me the most.
I completed Justice from HarvardX, which was very different from what I thought I was getting into – it was very rewarding and gave me such a great perspective on people and how they think and make decisions. I try to choose courses that will further my knowledge of history, will make me a well-rounded person in regards to events and thoughts of the times we live in.
I am currently enrolled in The Civil War and Reconstruction from Columbia Professor Eric Foner. This has been a most rewarding course. To understand this period in US History is vital to understanding what is happening today with African Americans. Professor Foner might be my favorite professor only because he is so dedicated in bringing to light material that is of such importance: the mistreatment of a race which caused so much grief to fellow human beings, and then the rewriting of history as if it did not happen.
Taking the courses that I have has given me the ability to discuss matters in a more intelligent way. I know facts that shed light on issues that are important today, and I’m able to share thoughts as to why things happen instead of just being mad about them.
Learning online is such a convenient way to further one’s education. It can be done at a person’s own speed and time frame for their individual lives. EdX makes it so easy to do; the tests and required writings and reading usually can be accomplished with out much stress. Every course has been great to take and I have not regretted the time given to any of them.
I am already signed up to take an English course, and am really looking forward to it. I am glad to have this chance to be able to make myself a more enlightened person. Thank you.
