What led you to your current role at edX?
About 3 years ago I was living in NYC and working in the medical field—something I did not enjoy at all. One day, I decided to take a risk and quit that job. I was stuck, a little lost and already deep enough in student loans, I didn’t know where to turn or start until I learned about edX. I enrolled in Wharton’s Digital Marketing Professional Certificate program, Curtin University’s Marketing in a Digital World MicroMasters® program, and also took Strategic Social Media Marketing from BUx. I spent all spring learning about marketing, social media and business.
By the summertime, I felt ready to apply what I had learned. After many interviews and a handful of rejections, I landed my first job in marketing. I moved here to take on the challenge, but after working in that role for a year, I was still looking for more. I went back to where it all started, edx.org and it was like the stars aligned. I was offered a position here at edX shortly after and now I work for the company who has been so instrumental in my life.
What do you think makes edX different?
edX believes in creating an organic and mutually beneficial relationship with our learners and partners. We immerse ourselves in the education of the courses, institutions and resources we provide in order see how it actually improves and contributes to people’s lives. edX’s ideas have real life application which inspires us to all be creative and care a lot about the work we produce in order to contribute something valuable to the daily lives of our learners.
What’s your favorite part of working at edX?
Everyday I am able to come in to not only work alongside but be in the presence of the most creative and intelligent people I’ve ever met. It is at times intimidating, yet inspiring at the same time. And for the first time in my career, I genuinely feel like I am working for an organization that is integral to the success in people’s lives.
Best advice for edX learners?
Don’t be afraid to take risks and constantly challenge yourself. Sometimes stepping out of your comfort zone can lead you to find comfort in something new and exciting.
What’s one thing your colleagues may not know about you?
I admire football (soccer) with a passion. A big reason why I love to travel so much is so that I can visit as many football stadiums as I can and watch matches in real life. It’s one of the many things I am so appreciative for because I am able to integrate two things I love the most, travel and football. My favorite football club is Arsenal, so for any Premier League fans out there, I know we won’t win the league title anytime soon ;(
