Seeing Current Events in Politics Courses: Meet Bernard

We chatted with Bernard, a Professor of Business Management in the US who has been leveraging edX to learn about politics in two HarvardX courses. By diving into the relationship between domestic policy, business, and interest groups, he’s even been able to apply his newfound knowledge to the university business classes that he teaches. Keep reading to find out about Bernard’s experience and what he has next in store.

What edX course or program did you take and what were your goals in taking it?

I recently completed U.S. Political Institutions: Congress, Presidency, Courts, and Bureaucracy and Citizen Politics in America: Public Opinion, Elections, Interest Groups, and the Media from HarvardX. I obtained a verified certificate for both courses. I loved both classes and I plan to use what I learned when teaching my classes in business law, global business, business politics and various legal studies courses. In addition to my PhD in management, I also have a Master’s in legal studies and often teach courses in that discipline as well.

How was your experience learning online?

I loved both classes. Extremely informative and timely courses: especially as it relates to the relationship between domestic policy, business and the role of interest groups.

How has your learning impacted your career, life, or community?

Much of the course material can be applied to the classes that I teach.

What advice would you give new edX students?

I would inform future edX students that the courses are not easy, but they are relevant and extremely informational.

Anything else you’d like to share about your experience learning on edX?

I am only 2 classes away from the XSeries program certificate from HarvardX in U.S. Government! I plan to complete it in the upcoming months, and am very excited.
