Gaining Confidence in a New Field: Meet Ajibola

We chatted with Ajibola, a student from Nigeria who is leveraging learning on edX to deepen his expertise in sports law. Still in the "learning stage" of his career, Ajibola shares how enrolling in edX courses has fueled his confidence in the field.

What edX course or program did you take and what were your goals in taking it?

I took the course Navigating the Legal and Commercial Aspects of Sports. My aim was to learn more about the sports law field and pinpoint an area of the field I can specialize on in the process.

How was your experience learning online?

The course was eye-opening and educational. I really loved the way the instructors explained topics and the subject matter in detail. The manner in which the present scenarios and hypothetical cases makes the course really engaging and interesting to follow.

How has your learning impacted your career, life, or community?

My career is still in progress — I guess I am still in the learning stage, and to an extent edX has given me the opportunity to learn a lot more about my career choice in sports law. I have completed two courses on this platform now - Contract Law and Navigating the Legal and Commercial Aspects of Sports.

Both courses have fueled my confidence in the sports law field, and I’m able to speak and write about the field with more authority now. I hope to educate more people who are interested in sports law soon.

How do you plan to use your learning in the future? What’s next for you?

Right now, I am about to go to law school, after which I would like to travel abroad (UK, the US, or other countries that have institutions that offer masters in Sports Law) to further my studies. My aim is to become a professor of Sports Law. In addition to being a professor of sports law, I wish to represent players, clubs/teams, and sports business enterprises before the CAS and other sports Adjudicatory bodies.

What advice would you give new edX students?

I advise new students to take their learning seriously, take part in discussion, complete knowledge checks, and do all homework. These activities create a better understanding of the course being studied.

Anything else you'd like to share about your experience learning on edX?

edX is the best online learning platform in the world. A big thank you to everyone who created the initiative.
