Learning the Basics of Computer Science: Meet Vasu

Vasu is a university student from India, and is one of the first learners to finish a MicroBachelors® program on edX. The program has improved his confidence in the field of computer science and he looks forward to continuing to learn on edX. Read on to hear more of his story:

What edX course or program did you take and what were your goals in taking it?

I took the MicroBachelors program in Computer Science Fundamentals offered by New York University. My goal was to learn computer science and a new programming language which will help me to shape my future in a better way.

How was your experience learning online?

My learning experience was very good. The platform provided by edX is very good; before the course I didn’t know anything about computer science but after taking the course I have learned a lot of things about computer science. The course material was very effective and the professors also taught very well. The discussion area provided is a very good platform to interact with other students taking the course and asking doubts.

How has your learning impacted your career, life, or community?

I am now very keen to explore more in the field of programming after the program I started experimenting with Python and this will help me ahead in my life as I will be going into the same field, and having a strong base makes me more confident.

How do you plan to use your learning in the future? What’s next for you?

In the future, I am thinking of improving my programming skills and doing some more courses on programming like HarvardX’s CS50.

What advice would you give new edX students?

edX is a great platform for learners to increase their knowledge and learn a lot of new skills. Give a good time to the course and use the discussion platform to interact with different people and clear your doubts.
