September 30th, 2014 marked an important day at edX — our first Spanish language course, Introducción a la Gestión para Resultados en el Desarrollo (or for those who do not speak Spanish, Introduction to Managing for Development Results) started. From the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), a leading source of development financing for Latin American and the Caribbean that aims to reduce poverty and inequality and bring about sustainable development in a climate friendly way, Introducción a la Gestión para Resultados en el Desarrollo focuses on the policies and practices Latin American and Caribbean governments can implement to successfully manage financial resources, public services and natural resources.
The course – the first of three IDBx courses currently announced – is designed for the nearly 9 million national and sub-national governmental managers and professionals in Latin American who work to affect social and economic change in the region.
Federico Basañes, the Manager of Knowledge and Learning at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is excited that this is the first Spanish language MOOC available on edX. “Thousands of people have signed up for this course and we hope many more register for it. And, keep in mind that this is just the start. As of next year, we will be offering MOOCs In Spanish on topics such as Pensions, Sustainable Cities, Urban Development and Foreign Trade.”
