Exciting News from edX and the University of Edinburgh: Delivering MicroMasters program offerings and upcoming Master’s degree offerings

We are pleased to share exciting news regarding the expansion of our partnership with the University of Edinburgh. Since we first welcomed the University of Edinburgh to the edX partner network almost two years ago today, we have been honored to work together to bring edX learners across the globe access to high-quality courses from the University of Edinburgh, in subjects that range from climate change to marketing.

Today, we are thrilled to share that the University of Edinburgh will be expanding its offerings on edX to deliver MicroMasters programs and online Master’s degrees. This is an important next step in our innovative work together and one that is in line with the University of Edinburgh’s commitment to pioneering online education for all.

Influencing the world since 1583, The University of Edinburgh is consistently ranked as one of the world’s top 50 universities. Today, the University has become an established and global leader in online learning, with more than 90,000 learners taking one of their courses on edX, in addition to the 7,000 students around the world who have taken a graduate-level online degree with the University since 2005.

Building on this success, the University of Edinburgh is preparing to offer online Master’s degrees and MicroMasters programs with edX in the subject area of business analytics, delivered by the University’s Business School. The University of Edinburgh will be the first European university to offer both MicroMasters programs and Masters degree programs on the  edX platform.

Peter Mathieson, Principal and Vice Chancellor at the University of Edinburgh commented:

“Partnering with edX lets us expand our online learning portfolio to deliver graduate-level education to a wider audience, utilising new and innovative online learning. By expanding our open educational resources we are able to reach more students online who are unable or do not wish to attend a traditional campus-based university education. ”

Anant Agarwal, edX CEO and MIT Professor commented: “We are delighted to share this news regarding the deepening of our partnership with the University of Edinburgh. By offering new MicroMasters programs and online Master’s degree offerings in highly in-demand fields like business analytics, the University of Edinburgh will be helping to directly address the growing global skills gap.”
