edX Welcomes Victoria University of Wellington

We are honored to announce that Victoria University of Wellington, one of New Zealand’s oldest and most prestigious tertiary institutions with a proud tradition of academic excellence, has joined edX.

With the vision to be a world-leading capital city university and one of the great global-civic universities, Victoria is dedicated to providing research that helps inform the way global leaders make decisions on issues from climate change, to international security, to cultural understanding. We are honored to join together to bring courses from Victoria to our community of edX global learners.

The first course offered by Victoria is Antarctica: From Geology to Human History. In this course, learners can travel virtually to Antarctica through lectures filmed on Ross Island and in the McMurdo Dry Valleys of Antarctica.

The instructors, Dr. Cliff Atkins and Dr. Rebecca Priestley, guide learners through the over 500 million years of geological and geographical history of the world’s coldest, driest and windiest continent. In the course, Dr. Atkins, who has spent 12 seasons in Antarctica, explores the past climate of the region and looks to see what we can learn about the future of the continent. In addition, Dr. Priestley provides learners with an in depth history of the many scientists and researchers who have braved the harsh Antarctic climate to gain valuable knowledge about the environment and conservation.

The Antarctica: From Geology to Human History course is open for enrollment and begins on April 15, 2017.

The launch of the first Victoria University of Wellington course on edX marks an exciting start to our ongoing partnership and we look forward to sharing news of more courses in the future.
