We are excited to welcome Jesus College, one of the oldest University of Cambridge colleges, to the global community of over 160 edX partners. Jesus College is made up of a diverse community of undergraduates, postgraduates, fellows and staff that encourage open academic inquiry into the key issues of today. We are thrilled that they are partnering with edX to share these learning opportunities with our community of over 40 million learners.
Jesus College’s first offerings on edX are two courses that each tackle complex social issues that we, as a society, face today, and teach ways to take action and address them.
The first course of its kind, How to be an active bystander in a post #MeToo world brings together survivors, academics and practitioners to explore the role individuals can play in addressing sexual harassment and violence, what options for action are available when we see this kind of behaviour, and how to stay safe as an active bystander. The course is led by Dr. Sarah Steele, Deputy Director of Jesus College’s Intellectual Forum and a Senior Research Associate specializing in the main themes explored in this training.
Jesus College’s second course, Us vs Them: Why people polarise and how to bring them together draws on expertise from influential speakers in business, behavioral science, and politics to explore what triggers and activates “groupish” instincts and how they can lead to problematic polarization. Learners will leave the course with skills and strategies to bridge divides in their lives, work, and home.
