HBKU is committed to delivering a truly global educational experience that breaks down academic silos. Through its various strategic partnerships, HBKU aims to make quality academic research programs and courses accessible to students in Qatar and the rest of the world. This latest partnership with edX further underscores HBKU’s commitment to accessible education.
HBKU’s first offering on edX is a Professional Certificate program, Solar Energy in Hot Desert Climates. The program focuses on advancing sustainable energy and combating global warming. The first course is open for enrollment today and begins on January 7, 2019.
Both edX and HBKU share a mission to increase access to high-quality education for all learners, everywhere, in fields that tackle the challenges society faces at a global level. These include the need to identify new and innovative ways to provide sustainable energy, which is addressed in HBKU’s Professional Certificate program.
The Professional Certificate program consist of two courses: Solar Resource Assessment in Desert Climates and Using Photovoltaic Technology in Desert Climates. It will focus on solar resource estimation and PV solar cell and module design for hot and dusty climates, assisting solar engineers, investors and energy policymakers to understand and mitigate the technical issues associated with solar energy production in desert environments.
