Trento, Italy | Age 30
I’m originally from Eritrea and now live in Trento, Italy where I am working on my PhD in Environmental Engineering. I first heard about edX from my supervisor, and signed up for The Challenges of Global Poverty from MITx when I realized that it was related to my research on water resource management in a sustainability framework.
Education has always been important for me and my nine sisters. My father, who was fluent in four languages, started as a teacher. My parents believe firmly in education, and almost all of their offspring hold some sort of BA.
The course has helped me with my work on my PhD and brought me personal growth. My edX course helped me rethink all previous understanding about poverty, and helped me reframe my research proposal. This course opened my eyes and made me re-think my life-long experiences. To stop looking for categoric truth and one-size-fits-all solutions is perhaps the coolest thing I’ve learned.
