In the second part of our edX Insider series, we’re heading over to the engineering team to chat with a software engineer.
We’re talking with Brittney, a Senior Software Engineer on our Business Engineering Team. A Colorado native, Brittney is a problem solver who is passionate about how edX uses technology for social good.
Q: What do you think makes edX different?
A: Our dedication to using technology for social good and the fact that we are serious about building a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
Q: What’s your favorite edX course?
A: I haven’t taken it yet, but The Science of Cooking by HarvardX has captured my fancy. I love to cook, especially baking, and I love understanding how and why things work the way they do.
Q: Finish this sentence: Education is _______.
A: Education is the foundation of a civically engaged and prosperous society.
Q: What’s your best advice for edX learners?
A: As with anything in life, you get out what you put in. Understand your reasons for taking a course – to improve or learn a new skill, to change careers, or to learn something for fun – and set your goals accordingly. Also, be forgiving with yourself if you don’t meet your goals, but take the lessons you learned and try again.
Q: What drives you?
A: Finding ways to improve anything – whether it is big or small, for work or for my personal life. If I think something can be (even) better, I’ll pursue the opportunity to make it so.
Q: What do you like to do when you’re not at work?
A: Outside of work, besides baking, I am the President of Boston Toastmasters, and recently I’ve been training to compete in Miss Massachusetts. But nothing beats binge-watching TV or reading at my local cafe on a free weekend.
