The UBC spirit, which embraces innovation and challenges the status quo, aligns with the edX mission to reimagine education by increasing access and creating a culture of continuous, lifelong learning. UBC’s entrepreneurial perspective encourages students, staff and faculty to challenge convention, lead discovery and explore new ways of learning, and its further expansion into MOOCs with edX will help it reach additional students and improve teaching methods on campus and online.
UBC professors will use edX to help remove many limitations of the traditional, physical classroom, reach a new breed of students and promote a place for universities to work together on improving learning technology, teaching methods and learning research.
Foundation of Chinese Thought and Blue is the New Green, a course about innovative solutions to the global water crisis, are currently open for enrollment. Check back on edx.org throughout the fall for additional online courses offered by UBCx.
Additionally, David Farrar, UBC’s Provost and Vice-President Academic will be joining the edX University Advisory Board, which is made up of senior academic leaders from edX’s global university partners who serve as the chief advisory body to edX CEO Anant Agarwal. We welcome Dr. Farrar and look forward to his insights, knowledge and experience.
Please join me in welcoming UBC!
