Myriam, 33, a PhD student at the Institute of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine of the University of Tübingen, shares how edX is helping her while she pursues her degree.

One of the main reasons why I started taking courses on edX was to enhance my experience in graduate school. I’m currently studying for my PhD in physiology, and I took Cellular Mechanisms of Brain Function from EPFLx as a way to complement my studies. The course has been a great supplement to the classes I’m taking in graduate school. It has also helped me to refresh my knowledge and solidify my understanding of information I learned as an undergraduate. As a result, I have much more confidence in my abilities as I pursue my PhD.

While I am primarily a physiologist and a biologist, the research I want to do requires me to have knowledge of many different fields. Especially for my work in electrophysiology, it is important to have a solid understanding of physics, chemistry, electronics, informatics and more. I don’t need to be a specialist in these fields, but knowing the basics makes it easier for me to understand the projects that I’m working on as an electrophysiologist.

EdX is the perfect place for me to get the background knowledge I need for my research, because it offers courses in so many different subjects. The best part is that I can take the courses at my own pace, so I can take my time to make sure I understand everything I’m learning. Having the opportunity to learn so many different subjects on edX makes me a more well-rounded scientist and helps me in my research.

Taking courses on edX is also helping me to stay up-to-date in my field. There are always new techniques and technologies being developed in electrophysiology that can help us understand more about brain behavior. With edX, it’s easy to learn about the different techniques and see if they match with what I want to do in the field.

Especially because the courses are free, it’s easy for me try a course and then decide whether or not it’s a good fit for where I want to go in my career. It’s also great that the courses are from top, well-known institutions because I am always confident that the information I’m learning is reliable.

Learning on edX has been so beneficial for me because I was looking to advance my career, but I wasn’t sure what the new techniques in physiology that I needed to learn were. I was looking for more information but I didn’t know what to look for. The courses on edX are always updated on the latest developments in the field, and I’ve been able to figure out what I should be learning about so that I can choose the right path for my career.

Thanks to edX, I have a better idea of the path I want to take and I am confident that I have the knowledge I need to achieve my career goals!
