Learning About the Medical Field During a Pandemic: Meet Sandeep
November 19, 2020 | edX team
We recently chatted with Sandeep, a researcher and university faculty member in India. He completed two courses to find further insights in his own research area and to broaden his knowledge about the medical and research fields — and to find out how a pandemic impacts the two. Keep reading about his learning experience and find out what’s next for him below.
What edX course or program did you take and what were your goals in taking it?
I took Antimicrobial Stewardship: Improving Clinical Outcomes By Optimization of Antibiotic Practices from Stanford Online and Mechanical Ventilation for COVID-19 from Harvard University. It was my goal to complete these courses and earn certificates of the same. As a researcher, I am sure these courses will help me gain much more knowledge about the biological concepts behind antibiotic resistance, which is very common among the human population due to over use of drugs in daily life. This course has helped me provide more insights in this research area. The other course in the mechanical field has provided me with knowledge of the medical and healthcare management areas during a pandemic. The courses on the edX platform are really helpful — they can help learners gain much more insight, not only of their particular field of interest but also beyond.
How was your experience learning online?
The experience of learning has been awesome, especially during this lockdown time. I used my time to gain something new everyday via the edX platform. The faculty teach in such a way that anybody can easily understand the concepts. The quizzes and discussion forms were excellent.
How has your learning impacted your career, life, or community?
I am a researcher as well as a faculty member of the Department of Life Sciences in my university. These courses will help me build up my career and teaching skills.
How do you plan to use your learning in the future? What’s next for you?
I plan to make my work better and in the future, I will try to join some courses related to biomedical engineering!
What advice would you give new edX students?
Take notes from the content provided and enjoy the edX learning platform.
