September 2, 2020 | Livia Halltari
Kaushar, a student from India, is taking advantage of edX to prepare for a career in international human rights law. She shared with us her experience in the HarvardX course, Child Protection: Child Rights in Theory and Practice, and how she plans to leverage what she’s learned.
What edX course or program did you take and what were your goals in taking it?
Child Protection: Child Rights in Theory and Practice. This course is appealing to me because I feel that this world isn’t safe for children and that much more has to be done to make it a more fair and safe place for children. In the near future, I want to advocate for children’s rights and to work for them — that’s why it was important for me to take this course as it will provide me much deeper insight on the pertaining issues related to children and steps taken so far.
How was your experience learning online?
My experience so far has been an amazing and an informative one. I have learned so much and I am learning everyday with the help of this course. I am pretty sure that at the end of this course, I will discover a new version of myself who will be more inspired and informed about this issue of Child Rights.
How has your learning impacted your career, life, or community?
The learning experience has contributed in so many ways, personally and professionally. On my personal front, it has made me more informed about children’s rights and conventions and the persisting issues. On the professional front, it is going to contribute to my further studies of Law and International Relations. Also, this has helped me to spread the word in my vicinity about challenges children are facing around the world. This in a way will educate other people as well who are unknown about these issues.
How do you plan to use your learning in the future? What’s next for you?
In the near future, as I plan to become an International Human rights Lawyer, this will help me to advocate for children’s rights in depth. I believe that having known all these things at a young age helps an individual to form a better perspective and evaluation, and the ability to tackle and respond to these issues.
What advice would you give new edX students?
I would like to advise new edX students that whichever field or course is appealing to you, go ahead with it. Once you start, put in your hundred percent to excel and you will see a new version of yourself. In near future you have to be an adherent youth and that’s why it’s imperative to be informed and dedicated. I wish them good luck.
Anything else you’d like to share about your experience learning on edX?
edX for surely is the best platform to explore new things and to involve yourself and to make the most out of it. I recommend everyone to join this amazing community to expand your knowledge and bring out the best of your personality.
